4. Cigarette Lighter.

4. Cigarette Lighter. This technique feels interesting. Use the thumb of your hand as if you were trying to unsuccessfully light a cigarette using a lighter. You would use this technique up and down mainly the legs as a closing technique. But, you can also do it along the spine.

Can I choose a male or female Massage Therapist?

We honor requests for male or female MTs.

<< back    more >>

Will I be naked during the massage?

The client will be professionally draped by a sheet over his or her entire body except for the region of the body being worked on. You can remove all of your clothes or keep your lower underwear on. We do not expose (or massage) the penis, vagina, or breasts.

  What is a 1-hour massage?

You will get massaged for usually 50 minutes if it is a one hour therapeutic massage, since we need to set aside 10 minutes for a brief  initial consultation, for you to get undressed, and for you to get dressed afterwards, unless the massage service clearly states 60 minutes. Sometimes we are more generous with our time, but you can reasonably expect to be massaged for a minimum of 50 minutes.

A one hour therapeutic massage is  performed on a massage table, with the client undressed and professionally draped. The legs, feet,  back, glutes, arms, hands, head, neck, shoulders, and face are typically massaged. A man's chest and stomach may or may not be massaged depending on the MT. You can assume that we will only massage a woman's stomach by special request, but it is your responsibility to inform us about anything that you definitely do or do not want to be massaged during the client intake interview.

Should I tip the Massage Therapist?

You are not required to tip, but it can be considered a reflection of the quality of the massage by the MT. Your tips keep us from switching into different careers and professions. In short, yes!

    Are the Massage Therapists licensed?

All MTs are required to be licensed by the State of Illinois Division of Professional Regulation.  Check a current  license at www.idfpr.com

In order to renew a license, LMTs are being compelled by law to pay for 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years, with 2 hours on the topic of ethics.

How often should I receive a massage?

If you are looking to receive a therapeutic massage in order to see if a massage can help you because of chronic pain, muscular injuries, or problematic conditions, you should get a massage twice a week for 2 weeks or once a week for a month. For most recent muscular injuries, avoid using it, ice it, maybe apply some over-the-counter topical agents, stabilize it, elevate it, take over-the-counter medication for pain relief, drink more fluids, and wait a couple of days before requesting a massage from Chicago Massage Professionals in order to speed up the healing process, increase range of motion, and decrease pain. Of course, if you suspect that something seriously bad happened or if you want to make sure that massage is the right choice for your condition, injury, or problem, consult with a Doctor of Physical Therapy or your doctor.

According to a recent survey conducted by the American Massage Therapy Association,  "respondents aged 45 to 64 have had an average of almost 7 massages during the past 12 months, while those aged 18 to 44 have had an average of five."

Do you recommend any behaviors during the massage?

Breathe deeply and regularly... The more you breathe, the more likely you are to reap the benefits of therapeutic massage.

Communicate any problems or issues that you might have with the pressure of the massage, lighting in the room, dislikes or volume of the music, how you are being draped, techniques, location of the massage, any pain issues that you need to be worked on longer, perceived neglect of something massaged, or if you want us to work for an additional 20 minutes! Don't forget to tell your MT if you have any health problems or skin conditions or if you are in your first trimester of your pregnancy.

What are some of the benefits of massage?

Massage Therapy is helpful for antidepressant effects, stress tension relief, and coping with pain.

Massage Therapy feels great!
